What’s up with the silhouettes?
You may have noticed that a majority of the team are people of color. We are also of different gender identities. Overall, as minorities, we agree that the root of what we want is to feel like we belong. To be included. We realize that with Upstaged we have an opportunity to go beyond diversity — to be inclusive and to find things we have in common.
To accomplish that within Upstaged, we made a conscious decision to use silhouettes, though it may not go with the popular trend of having amazingly intricate and detailed art, especially for a Kickstarter game. Yeah, we did luck out in that the silhouettes work well within a classic music motif. But seriously, we sincerely hope that you can identify a little bit of yourselves and the ones you love within these silhouettes, regardless of your color, ethnicity or gender.
So hopefully you’ll join us in finding common ground with each other through Upstaged.

Is the VAT (value added tax) included on international shipping?
Since the game will be shipping in the first half of next year, we cannot accurately answer that question until we are closer to shipping due to the ever-changing laws of each and every individual country. However, as we near the actual shipping date we will keep you updated on the situation and make sure it is fair to you, the backer.

Is this game for kids?
Upstaged is for anyone 14 years of age and older. Though we have tried the game with younger audiences, in general, we found that older children grasp the concepts and strategies more completely than the younger crowd.

When will I get my copy of Upstaged?
We are planning to get your copy of Upstaged in your hands in May of 2020 (next year). A lot has to happen before then. Here’s the basics. Reach our funding goal to manufacture Upstaged. Finalize the files with our manufacturer and submit them. The manufacturer makes a prototype using their processes. We get that prototype and give the approval for mass production. The manufacturer mass produces Upstaged. The manufacturer ships Upstaged to our fulfillment center(s). The fulfillment centers ship your copy of Upstaged to you.
Yeah. There’s a lot of little things in between. But we want to do this right and give you a high quality, enjoyable game. Rest assured, after the Kickstarter ends, we’ll keep you informed all along the way with regular updates.

Why Kickstarter? Can’t you produce it now?
Kickstarter enables us to fulfill our dream efficiently and effectively. Without Kickstarter, not only would we not have enough money to make the game, but even if we did, it may come to you at a more expensive price point and lower quality, given that we would not be able to estimate demand as well.

Will the game be available in retail stores?
As you can see in the pledge levels, Friendly Local Gaming Stores (FLGS’s) have the opportunity to pledge and get Upstaged, complete with the Kickstarter stretch goals, during the campaign. So in that sense, yes, it will be available in retail at those specific stores.
In general, unless Upstaged becomes wildly successful, we do not anticipate the game being in large scale retail outlets for at least a few years. Koalatie Games has to establish itself as a viable, reliable company, and when that happens, large scale retail can become an option.

Will the game be available to purchase online?
After the Kickstarter, we will have a sort of pre-order system online through what’s known as a pledge manager. All associated stretch goals with the campaign will be available through this pledge manager website. When the game is finally shipping it will likely be available for purchase on our website as well. However, depending on many factors, most likely those add-ons will come at an additional charge. Therefore, getting in on the ground floor through this Kickstarter campaign is the best way to ensure that you obtain the complete Upstaged experience.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
